Takapau Indoor Bowling Club on membership drive

The Takapau Indoor Bowling Club is looking for new members.

The club was formed 62 years ago in early 1958, with members playing Indoor Bowls at the Takapau Buffalo Hall before moving to the Outdoor Bowling Pavilion in 1991, the Takapau R.S.A. rooms in June 1996.

In 2017 the club increased its playing season from March to September to March through to the end of October.

However in recent times the membership has been falling due to members moving away from the district, ill health and bereavements.

The club is keen on all ages and has had members as young as 9 years old (children under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult)

The club has made it easy to participate - all you need is soft soled shoes and all equipment is supplied.

The club meets at the Takapau School Hall every Monday evening except Public holidays from the first Monday in March until the Monday prior to Labour Weekend in October.

Games start promptly at 7pm and the evening is usually completed by 9pm.

It holds three tournaments a year with Dannevirke  Sportcentre, RuaRoa Indoor Bowling, Waipawa Indoor Bowling and St Andrews in Waipukurau all invited to attend.

If you’re competitive the club has several club trophies up for grabs but the main objective is to enjoy an evening of gentle exercise and a good few laughs on many occasions.

Membership is very affordable – 20 a year and a fee of $3 per evening. There is also a discounted price of free first year membership to any novice family groups who wish to join, with them only needing to pay the nightly $3 evening fee charge which goes towards the hire costs of the hall.
